Preparation: Special preparations are made by the temple priests and servitors for the ritual. The new flag is prepared with great care and devotion.
Climbing the Temple: A specially trained servitor, known as a Chhatra Sevaka, climbs the temple to reach the Nilachakra. This task requires great skill and courage due to the height and the ancient structure of the temple.
Replacing the Flag: The old flag is carefully removed and replaced with a new one. This is done with precise ritualistic procedures and prayers, invoking the blessings of Lord Jagannath.
